Get Back Here 2 Overview
Get Back Here 2 is designed to allow you to record a location anywhere and later to point you back to that location from anywhere else.
Get Back Here 2 does not rely on an Internet or cell phone connection to do it's work. It can provide directions from anywhere on Earth.
Before starting out the user simply needs to save their current location in Get Back Here 2. That can be accomplished by:
- Let Get Back Here 2's GPS record your location automatically.
- Choose the location using a map (an Internet connection may be required).
- Enter the latitude and longitude manually.
Later when they are lost or disoriented they can use Get Back Here to show them the exact direction and distance back to their starting point.
Get Back Here can store an unlimited number of locations for the user to get back to. The user can even enter the latitude and longitude for locations anywhere on Earth and get instant direction and distance to them.

Reading the compass: The compass screen displays a magnetic compass with a pointer. The red pointer indicates the direction to the destination you have selected. (Hold your iPhone parallel to the ground as you would when holding a normal compass).
The pointer will rotate to always point in the direction of your destination. For reference the compass also indicates the four cardinal directions (North, South, East and West) found on a normal compass. These are accurate and may be used for navigation.
Above the compass is the name of your destination. Below that is your current distance to the destination. This updates in realtime.
Below the compass is your current latitude, longitude and altitude. These update in realtime.
Click on the i nformation button to get more detailed information on both the destination and your current location.
Location Details: This screen shows the same information as the compass screen but as text:
- Name: The destination's name as entered when you originally saved the location.
- Coord: The latitude and longitude of the destination. The display format can be changed to either decimal degrees or degrees, minutes and seconds format from the Settings screen.
- Distance: The current distance from you to the destination followed by the measurement's accuracy. This is updated in realtime.
- Altitude: The altitude of the destination.
- Azimuth: The direction in degrees from North to the destination at your location. 0° would indicate that the destination is directly North of you. 180° would be directly South. 90° and 270° would indicate East and West respectively.
- Bearing: The direction in degrees from the direction your iPhone is pointing to the destination. 0° indicates your iPhone is pointing directly at the destination. 180° indicates your iPhone is pointing directly away from the destination. 90° and 270° would indicate that your destination is directly to your right or left respectively. This updates in realtime.
- H Accuracy: The horizontal accuracy of the destination when it was saved.
- V Accuracy: The vertical accuracy of the destination when it was saved.
- Saved: The time and date that the destination location was saved.
- My Location Coord: The current latitude and longitude of your current location. These update in realtime.
- My Location Altitude: The altitude of your current location. This updates in realtime.
- My Location H Accuracy: The horizontal accuracy of the readings your iPhone is currently reporting. This updates in realtime.
- My Location V Accuracy: The vertical accuracy of the readings your iPhone is currently reporting. This updates in realtime.
Maps: The maps screen allows you to view your locations on a map. The screen may be slightly different depending on where you accessed the map from:
Settings: This screen lets the user change settings used throughout the application:
- Units: This sets how distance measurments are displayed:
- Metric: Distances are displayed in meters (m) and Kilometers (Km)
- Imperial (US): Distances are displayed in feet (ft) and miles (mi)
- Coordinate Display: This sets how degrees of latitude and longitude are entered and displayed:
- Degrees: Degrees are entered and displayed in decimal degrees (i.e. 45.25). Values are entered via a keypad. North/South and East/West designations are entered using the appropriate buttons provided.
- Deg Min Sec: Degrees are entered and displayed in degree, minute and second values. Values are entered using the appropriate spinwheels provided. North/South and East/West designations are entered using the appropriate buttons provided.
- Map Type: This sets the type of map that is displayed througout the app.
- Standard: A street map that shows the position of all roads and some road names.
- Satellite: Satellite imagery of the area.
- Hybrid: A satellite image of the area with road and road name information layered on top.
- Satellite Flyover: A satellite image of the area with flyover data where available.
- Hybrid Flyover: A hybrid satellite image with flyover data where available.
- Muted Standard: A street map where MapKit emphasizes your data over the underlying map details.
- Distance Filter: This sets the minimum distance (in meters) the iPhone must move to register a new location reading. Larger values use less power but also provide less updates to the compass. Larger values may be appropriate when moving in a vehicle or airplane. The default is None where all movements are reported.
Note: Higher settings will use less power.
- Desired Accuracy: The iPhone does its best to achieve this accuracy, however the actual accuracy is not guaranteed.
Note: You should select the setting that is appropriate for your usage scenario. For example, if you only need accuracy within a kilometer then select 1 Km. Determining a location with greater accuracy uses more time and power.
The Nav (Best for Navigation) setting should only be used when your iPhone is plugged into a power supply such as a vehicle lighter as it uses the most power. The default setting is Best.
- Sort By: This sets which item lists will be sorted by:
- Date: The date and time the location was saved.
- Name: The name of the location or group.
- Distance: The distance between the user's location and the stored location.
- Direction: The direction the item will be sorted:
- Ascending: Locations and groups are sorted in alphabetical order. Dates are sorted in chronological order.
- Descending: Locations and groups are sorted in reverse alphabetical order. Dates are sorted in reverse chronological order.
